Introducing the 2023 Card Design Superstars: Coloring Virtuoso
We're back with our second day of 2023 Card Design Superstar winners. Today, we're celebrating the incredible coloring skill our entrants demonstrated this year.
When choosing our winners, we were looking for cards using My Favorite Things supplies that embodied the following characteristics:
- Great design
- Superb execution
- Clever uses of our product
- Fresh approaches
As a reminder, we have five $250 winners from each category, and one randomly selected $100 winner. All of our winners will be emailed at the conclusion of announcements on Sunday regarding their prizes. Congratulations to you all.
Without further ado, meet your 2023 Coloring Virtuoso Card Design Superstars!
Coloring Virtuoso
WHAT WE LOVE:
Welcome to paradise. Federica's tropical scene features classic Birdie Brown imagery brought to life under her deft hand. Our judges were enamored by the realistic waves and palm fronds, and the fantastic depth she achieved in her waddling sunbathers. That neat little reflection she added under her sentiment is just the icing on the cake and one more check in the column that made Federica a 2023 Superstar.
WHAT WE LOVE:
What's black and white and amazing all over? Imelda's Coloring Virtuoso entry for the 2023 Superstar contest, of course! While a monochromatic look like this might be a surprising choice of technique for a coloring contest, we think the limited palette highlights her exceptional skill in creating drama and depth. The deep shadows serve to make the highlights pop and the overall effect brings to mind a classic film noir feel. I'm sure you can see why this card resulted in Imelda being crowned a Superstar!
WHAT WE LOVE:
Where the previous entry leaned into a monochromatic design, Josi took the opposite approach and went for full-on color. Bold color choices are perfect for breathing life into a joyous carnival scene — her clustered carnival scene elements in a range of rainbow hues provides the perfect backdrop to her playful critters. Impeccable shading and expert color picking make Josi a Superstar.
WHAT WE LOVE:
Where to begin? Kavya's take on a Pixar classic features so many of your favorites — the ingenuity involved in transforming MFT images into Toy Story characters is beyond incredible. The highlighted images perfectly evoke the telltale finish toys boast, but we're particularly amazed by that slinky little pup she created with the Woof Pack set. Kavya's ability to craft a scene we're ready to jump right into make her a 2023 Superstar.
WHAT WE LOVE:
The incredible Bunny Bouquet image steals the show on any card but Simone's decision to frame it with oversized blooms from the retired Magnolia Blossoms set was truly inspired. Her marker skills are obvious but her eye for design equals her coloring prowess and made her an easy pick as a Superstar.
