Summer School – It’s Your Turn to Learn: Gallon/Quart/Pint

Print

Welcome back to MFT Summer School! We hope you had some quality family time during our little break and the chance to use what you learned in session one! If you happened to miss it, HERE is a link to bring you up to speed.

While session one focused on design priniciples, session two will give you the tools you need to confidently create with color. And with all of the colors available through My Favorite Things, you’re sure to want to play with them ALL!

From the palest of hues to the most vibrant, color shapes every decision we make. Within paper crafting, color can ultimately dictate the overall mood and feel of your designs. From a bright and cheerful birthday card to a dark and somber sympathy card, color is one of the most powerful tools at your disposal.

We’re hoping that by the end of the week, our lessons will give you the confidence you need to create cards and projects that are pleasing to the eye just by following a few simple color rules. Are you ready class? Let’s begin.

Lesson #6 – Color Theory: Gallon/Quart/Pint

When combining solid colors, it’s helpful to use the gallon/quart/pint rule. Also, combining similar saturations often works best.

The first color lesson centers around the concept of using the theory of Gallon/Quart/Pint. A tricolor scheme can make most any card work when applying a main color, a little less of another color, and a dose of a final third color.

Today’s instructor is My Favorite Things Design Team member Kimberly Crawford. Click HERE or simply watch the video below to learn more about using the color theory of Gallon/Quart/Pint in your designs.

Kimberly is such a great teacher with super visuals to show the concept! Fun Fact: She used to be a classroom teacher. Pretty obvious, huh?

Doesn’t the finished product rock? And now that you know a little more about this color rule, you can confidently create with color!

To aid in your learning, we have created a My Favorite Things Summer School Session Two Study Guide. Download it HERE, and then print it. It will be a handy tool that you can refer to as you design!

This week you’re the student, and instead of grades, we’ve got two prizes per day and two ways to win. Using today’s lesson, we’d love for you to create a project that exemplifies what you learned and upload it to the link below. Master the lesson and win a $50 voucher from My Favorite Things and be featured on the blog on July 28th. Just by participating, you’ll be entered into a drawing to win a $20 voucher, so everyone has a chance!
