Summer School 2018: Primary Colors

One of our perennial favorites around here is our Summer School series. Understanding and internalizing different design concepts allows you to bring your ideas to life. With a little practice, these ideas will quickly become intuitive, leading your card designs to come together with minimal effort. Over the course of this week, we’ll bring you videos and projects designed to help you understand these basic principles and incorporate them into your own crafting.

Primary colors are among the first we learn as kids and for that reason, sometimes have a bad rap as being a childish choice for projects. Really though, primary colors are essential. Not only do they provided the basis for our other colors, they also impart such a playful cheeriness (kid card or not) that they shouldn’t be overlooked.

Today’s instructor is My Favorite Things Design Team member Stephanie Klauck. Click HERE or simply watch the video below to see how well primary colors work together, eliminating the stressful step of color picking.

Now that you’ve seen the video, you know it’s possible to create a vibrant scene with a simple trio of colors. If you’re not confident in crafting a scene though, why not attempt a simple grid design featuring images colored in red, blue, and yellow — this sunny example from Stephanie ought to be just the motivation you need!
