Monsters in the Mist: Colored Pencil Coloring with Sandy Allnock
Hello coloring pals! I’m Sandy Allnock, and I hope you had a wonderful holiday season! I for one am a little glad it’s over because I sent out almost 250 cards…a few went out on Christmas Eve, but man, beating that deadline just about crushed me!
Today I’m starting off 2018 with colored pencils in hand — this time on toned card stock. This can be done easily on a lot of colors of card stock, and if you make this card in pinks or reds it could easily be a monstrously cute Valentine! You may have heard of Gorillas in the Mist…I call this “Monsters in the Mist!”
I stamped the sentiment in Black Licorice but the monsters in Steel Blue. Whatever ink you pick for the monsters, let it be just a little darker than the paper so you can hide any lines you want to change up. And if you’re brave, skip the masking because as you’ll see in the video, pencil can cover it all up anyway!
For those who are a little nervous about “drawing” like this — feet and hands tend to be the hardest for lots of folks…thus the “mist” or “dust”! Put it over any area you don’t think you can handle and let it faaaade away into the mist…check out the video and see if you think this is something you’d try out!
I customized the monsters – just check out my crazy Elvis Costello monster! And that dude with the sunglasses is hilarious. You could make this look like your own family…or the family of your card recipient! Any stamp set can be customized this way, and it can really stretch the life of your stamps in all kinds of ways. Plus it only needs black, white, and 2 colors of pencil! I used Prismacolors, but it works with other brands too.
So there we are with the first Create in Color for 2018….I can’t wait to see what MFT has us coloring next month. Thanks so much for spending a few minutes with me — see you in February!
