Sea Creature Birthday Wishes

Guest Laura Guttridge is back today taking us on a trip into the deep blue sea.

Hi, everyone! One of my favourite things is the ocean so when the new Ocean Pals and Exquisite Ocean stamp set & Die-namics came out I knew I had to create an underwater card full of lots of fish and sea creatures.

I started by stamping the seaweed on the background of the card with plants from Exquisite Ocean. I used Limelight Premium Dye Ink to stamp these overlapping some and creating different heights of plants to make a more realistic ocean scene. I also added a slightly darker dye ink with the Limelight to give it more definition. Once the plants were in place I could then create the ocean. I used Distress Oxide inks to create an ombre effect for the ocean. I also did the same blending on a square piece of card stock which I die cut using the Wonky Stitched Square STAX — I used the largest square on this card. Once the background had dried completely, I stamped some of the plants from Exquisite Ocean with Distress Oxide ink to bring them into the foreground. The ones stamped earlier will be background plants and now this will add another layer of dimension. I then flicked some water onto both of the inked panels to create a bleached effect which looks like bubbles.

The ocean creatures from the Ocean Pals stamp set were stamped with black ink and coloured with Copic markers, using a white gel pen for some highlights. I used the coordinating Die-namics and fussy cut some space between the octopus tentacles with a craft blade.

Once all my elements were ready I used foam tape to adhere the stitched square to the card base. I added the Octopus, shark, and big fish at the top of the card with foam tape and the rest of the fish with sticky tape. I used the sentiment Happy Birthday from the Ocean Pals stamp set and used white embossing powder to make it pop against the blue. To add some more bubbles I used droplets and adhered these with liquid glue before adding the finishing touch of glossy accents to create smaller bubbles from the smaller fish.

I had so much fun making this card — I adore the Ocean Pals and Exquisite Ocean sets. You can create so many fun looks and cards for different occasions…they have to be a couple of my favourites. I’m looking forward to coordinating these with the Mermazing stamp set and Die-namics to create more ocean scenes. The possibilities are endless!
