Hello MFT colorists and coloristas! I’m Sandy Allnock and if we haven’t met yet, then HI! I’m one of those coloring nuts out there who loves to color ALL the things!

The name of this stamp set is perfect for my mood while coloring — WHEE! Especially when I have a great idea for a unique approach to the art.

Watch the video to see how I changed the little girl’s skin and hair completely for this card!

I hope showing you the transformation made it seem doable. It’s not too hard, really! The free skin tone color chart I mentioned is over HERE.

The colors I used are here – you can definitely get by with fewer, but I tend to go overboard!

I hope you’ll try changing ethnicity on a stamp once in a while – especially if you’re sending it to a person whose skin tone or hair you can try to match. It makes people feel so special and included when you think of them!

See you all again next month…in the meantime, keep on coloring!

Last Chance to Save 20% on Animals & Pets plus Wonderful Watercolor from Betsy Veldman

It’s your last chance! Today is your final opportunity to save 20% on all in-stock products in the Animals & Pets category. Use code WILD at checkout to apply your discount. *not valid on previous purchases, excludes new

Join us in welcoming Betsy Veldman to the blog today. Her stunning card is the perfect inspiration for attempting some no-line watercolor of your own. Keep reading to learn more about her project.

I used the Fresh-Cut Flowers stamp to do some no-line watercoloring. This is such a pretty image, and perfect for this technique! I painted the blooms in shades of pinks and purples.

Handmade card from Betsy Veldman featuring products from My Favorite Things #mftstamps

When I was finished watercoloring those pretty flowers, I wanted to create a background to really set them off. I sponged some Distress Oxide ink around the outer edges, and stamped the same flower image several times around the perimeter of the card. I also added some gold splatters for a little artsy shine.

Handmade card from Betsy Veldman featuring products from My Favorite Things #mftstamps

I didn’t want to distract from the flowers too much with a large sentiment, so I went for a soft look by stamping a sentiment onto a strip of vellum. I then backed the vellum with a smaller strip of white card stock stamped with the same sentiment, but in black, to give a shadowed effect and help the sentiment to stand out just a bit.

Handmade card from Betsy Veldman featuring products from My Favorite Things #mftstamps

Fresh-Cut Flowers is such a pretty image, and so fun to work with, I know I’ll be painting more of these flowers! I’d love to try it again, with a mix of bright and vibrant colors!

Those pretty pastels are such a lovely choice for a card in which you’re extending your support and love. Choosing more vibrant hues would work great for an exciting occasion or celebration though. Are you using your watercolor supplies with your MFT collection? Tag us at #mftstamps when you upload so we can be inspired by your projects!

Create Contrast Featuring Bold Embossed Designs with the Newest Episode of MFTv

We’ve seen some incredible coloring since the Fresh-Cut Flowers design was released — it’s such an enticing image when the coloring bug bites. The elegant line art results in a striking look all on its own though…particularly when you add the texture created by a bit of heat embossing.

Handmade cards from Stephanie Klauck featuring products from My Favorite Things #mftstamps

This week, Stephanie has paired Fresh-Cut Flowers with a colorful stenciled backdrop. The stark contrast of the design, rendered in both black and white, against a rainbow gradient is unforgettable. While the two cards are equally beautiful and feature virtually identical compositions, the choice of black or white embossing makes a huge difference in the feel of the finished projects. Which version draws you in the most?
