Create in Color with Sandy Allnock

It’s one of our favorite times of the month! Our good friend Sandy is joining us for another edition of Create in Color. Each month she shares a useful coloring technique for you to incorporate into your repertoire. Her sparkling personality is just a bonus feature. ❤️

Hey everyone – it’s Sandy, back with another card — and excited because it’s almost summertime!

The Beach Buds stamp set is perfect to make all kinds of fun cards — and that pelican?! GAH! The cuteness! He’s got his little snack hanging out in his mouth (and I’d love to rescue that little octopus!)

In the video, I show you more on my colored pencil technique — this time with Polychromos pencils. They’re an oil-based rather than wax-based pencil, but they are super nice. The color selection is great too, since it’s Faber Castell. Enjoy the video  — and PLEASE, someone, sing along at the end, ok?

Was that mean to leave you with an earworm? Or a desire to get an 80’s haircut!?

That little crab is so darling. I can’t tell if he’s just yelling “YAY!” or if he’s striking a Corey Hart pose…

Remember the little trick of cutting down scenes to make them more do-able for you in colored pencil…it can take a while to color a big area nicely, and smaller ones work out better sometimes!

I’ll see you guys again next month…maybe with another 80’s redux? Leave me a comment to let me know I’m not the only one “dating” myself by knowing that song! 🙂

What do you think? Are your coloring fingers itching to get a hold of your pencil collection? As Sandy mentions in her video, this technique can be a bit more time consuming but the results are so well worth it. We are excited to see more of your pencil-colored MFT images so don’t forget to tag #mftstamps in your social media uploads. Happy coloring!

Such a sweet card, Sandy. Don’t know the song, but that’s probably because it never reached Europe.

Sandy, I’m always so intrigued and mesmerized with your shadow colors. I love this card and your coloring technique, as usual! Also, thanks for the Corey Hart song…I loved it too and yet not certain what it meant either.
Thanks for the cute card and inspiration!

this was so informative and I love this cute stamp set. I’m wondering what sharpener Sandy recommends for sharp pencils? I’ve had so much trouble with sharpening. Thanks for the inspiration!

Sandy has a list of her favourite supplies on her website, in the Need help section. Personally, I’m very happy with my KUM long point pencil sharpener that I have been using with my Prismacolors and Spectrum Noir coloured pencils.
