I gladly give honor where honor is due.

Each morning, in my inbox, I receive a little prayer for the day.  It really sets a nice tone for the day, provided I take time the time to read it!  I wanted to share this mornings story and prayer with all of you in honor of Veteran’s Day..

“Veterans’ Day”

An Arkansas teacher imparts a lesson in the value of freedom by having veterans return her students desks.

Four years ago, in September of 2005, then Gov. Mike Huckabee of Arkansas shared this story of something a teacher did in his state.

On the first day of school, Martha Cothren, a social studies school teacher at Robinson High School in Little Rock, did something not to be forgotten. On the first day of school, with the permission of the school superintendent, the principal and the building supervisor, she removed all of the desks out of her classroom.

When the first period kids entered the room they discovered that there were no desks.

“Ms. Cothren, where’re our desks?”

She replied, “You can’t have a desk until you tell me how you earn the right to sit at a desk.”

They thought, “Well, maybe it’s our grades.”

“’No,” she said.

“Maybe it’s our behavior.”

She told them, “No, it’s not even your behavior.”

And so, they came and went, the first period, second period, third period. Still no desks in the classroom.

By early afternoon television news crews had started gathering in Ms. Cothren’s classroom to report about this crazy teacher who had taken all the desks out of her room.

The final period of the day came and as the puzzled students found seats on the floor of the deskless classroom, Martha Cothren said, “Throughout the day no one has been able to tell me just what he/she has done to earn the right to sit at the desks that are ordinarily found in this classroom. Now I am going to tell you.”

At this point, Martha Cothren went over to the door of her classroom and opened it.

Twenty-seven (27) U.S. Veterans, all in uniforms, walked into that classroom, each one carrying a school desk.

The Vets began placing the school desks in rows, and then they would walk over and stand alongside the wall. By the time the last soldier had set the final desk in place those kids started to understand, perhaps for the first time in their lives, just how the right to sit at those desks had been earned.

Martha said, “You didn’t earn the right to sit at these desks. These heroes did it for you. They placed the desks here for you. Now, it’s up to you to sit in them. It is your responsibility to learn, to be good students, to be good citizens. They paid the price so that you could have the freedom to get an education. Don’t ever forget it.”

Teacher Martha Cothren is the daughter over World War II POW and regularly has veterans visit her classroom. She often uses less typical methods of imparting knowledge to her young students. Part and parcel of what she teaches is an appreciation for the members of the armed services.

Her students now have sent numerous care packages to US personnel serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. They also write letters to soldiers, sending off over 4000 letters since this event.

In 2006, the Veterans of Foreign Wars gave her the honor of naming her Teacher of the Year.

Please consider passing this along so others won’t forget that the freedoms we have in this great country were earned by U. S. Veterans.

POSITIVE PRAYER FOR TODAY: Dear God, protect and be with every soldier and their families. Keep them out of harm’s way. Make every effort to bring peace to the world.

Have a wonderful, safe day, and send a silent (or loud) thanks and wish for safety to all those away from their families in service of our country.

MFT Kits – Just add COLOR

Can you believe it’s Friday???  Tomorrow is Emma’s birthday party, so my Friday night will be spent baking DOZENS (and making icing for dozens) of delicious Coconut Lime and Pumpkin Spice cupcakes!  YUM.  (I wonder how many will actually make it to the party?)

Joanne’s Blog Hop post was all about the November Love Birds Kit, so I wanted to share her creations with all of you!  She goes into detail on her post, but here I’d like to show you her finished product and the Kit contents.  Here is our NEW MFT Kit graphic!  Isn’t it adorable????  Sara from Tweaks & Designs created it, and I am in LOVE.

The November Love Birds Kit contains:

Unreleased Love Birds MINI stamp set (It will be released in February, in case you were wondering why we are releasing a *love* themed stamp set so early!)

A full 25 sheet package of Chocolate Kiss 6 x 6 patterned paper

10, A2 sized Scalloped notecards AND envelopes in Espresso

Adornments mix of buttons, brads and crystals

A SPECIAL offer toward a future purchase

All for $25 bucks!

My most favorite thing about this months Kit is that it’s designed to create super easy, clean & simple cards that are amazingly versatile.  Joanne snipped and switched some sentiments to vary her options, and the set itself will work with oval, circle, square or rectangle layers, so the options are endless!  The tree is designed to be representative of any season, so play away with an image you can grab again and again!

Hi all!  WOW, was the Wednesday night Cocktail Release Party a BLAST!  The Pure Innocence Line has gone NUTS, and everyone loves ALL the Brand Spankin’ New Sets!

I wanted to take a moment to thank THE most amazing Design Team EVER in the land, the MFT Girls.  They completely knocked my socks off with their amazing talent and enthuiasm.  I also thought it would be fun to show my personal favorite project from each DT Member from this release.  Ready?

Amy’s Cool Yule card just BLEW me away!  The depth of color, using all of the set characters, aahhh.  Just a feast for the eyes, huh?

Barbara’s Blog Hop post and projects was over the top and out of this world!  If you haven’t REALLY checked it out, you owe it to yourself to really pour over the content, she worked really hard and boy does it show!

I love how Christina paired Apple for You with this patterned paper and created what appears to be a simple, clean card, but secretly, there’s lots of detail that just WORKS!

I love the papers she chose as well, I think it’s SUCH a SWEET card!

I chose the Gifty GIrl card Frances created as my favorite because I really like the bold colors she chose, and the fact that even though they are bold, the image still pops!  And of course, it’s a great layout as well, Frances never fails in that area!

This Snow Day project has completely captured my heart!  Sigh…

Joanne always has amazing designs, but this one totally stole the show this month for me!!

Jody’s notebook just makes me squeal!!

Kathy’s clearly *magical* card was amazing! Check out her TUTORIAL!

I LOVE the warm colors Kirsten chose for this card!

I LOVE this card.  Enough said.

I think this is BRILLIANT!  Wanna make one?

I LOVE this sweet little card!

Sus always creates something to amaze and DELIGHT!

I hope you’ve enjoyed their work this month as much as I have!  And I hope you pop by their blogs and leave them some love!
