MFT Fabulous Friend Sharon Harnist

Happy Monday all!  I am thrilled at the Fabulous Friend joining us today is Sharon Harnist!!!  WOOT!  Be sure to check out her creation here, PLUS she has a little something to show you on HER blog as well.  You won’t want to miss it.

But, before I show off her amazing work, let’s get nosy!

What is your signature move?  Is there one style or technique that seems to adorn your every creation?

I’ve never known exactly what my style is!  I guess I usually lean more towards distressed / shabby chic / embellished rather than clean & simple one-layer things!  And of course I love to color – you’ll usually see some kind of coloring on my creations, so my Copic markers are always close!

What’s your favorite MFT set and why?

It’s hard to pin-point a specific set but the Pure Innocence and Jolinne collections are my favorites.  I adore these girls – probably because I’m Mom to two girls myself!

Any funny stamping stories?  Glitter mishaps??  SPILL!
Actually my oldest daughter, when she was about two, DID spill a whole jar of  Perfect Pearls powder!  Oh my goodness, she was covered in sparkle from head to toe and I was finding it EVERYWHERE for months!  Other than that, when I first started stamping, I swore I would never color images – I just wanted solid stamps I could stamp with one color!  I quickly got over that, once I tried coloring, LOL!   Also, when I first started trying to use Copic markers over three years ago (before there were so many online tutorials, education and Certification classes), I failed miserably with them!  I guess there’s something to be said for practicing, right?!!

What do you hoard?
I’m trying not to hoard too much of anything any longer because I have TONS of patterned paper I USED to do that with!  So now I’m really trying to use the new papers I get (they are a weakness of mine!), before they get too old and/or aren’t produced any longer!

Now… on to the eye candy!  Sharon created this project she dubbed “treasure box girl”.  Any mom knows that kids tend to collect “treasures” of all kinds, and Sharon had her daughter in mind when she created this gorgeous project.  It is made of matchboxes and can house anything from tiny treasures to bugs she finds.

WSC – Earth Day Fun (04.21.10)

Hi all!  I’m back with all the deets and a million pictures for Wednesday Stamp Club, are you ready?

Excellent!  I love an enthusiastic crowd!

This week I wanted to use our newest Stephanie Fizer set, Sheltering Tree, and since Earth Day is right around the corner, I thought I could combine the two.  I really struggled all week long for inspiration, but literally as I was lying in bed it came to me!  I thought about one of my favorite childrens books of all time, The Giving Tree, by Shel Silverstein, and then an idea started to form.

I LOVE the premise of The Giving Tree, and decided I could take the lovely sentiment and tweak it a bit and create something for my daughters.

Hubby helped me find a perfect branch in the yard, and then he nailed it to a small piece of wood so it would stand upright.

Using the Sheltering Tree DIGI Paper Pack & the new Template, I printed the bottom box and bottom box liner onto the backs of my green striped DIGI papers.  That’s the coolest thing about DIGI Papers!  Patterned Papers don’t generally come in 8.5 X 11 sizes, so with DIGI’s I can have patterned papers for template use!

After my box bottom is complete and lined, I wanted to add a little something to the sides to finish it, so I cut four pieces of the brwon striped DIGI papers and then scored them so that they’d fold over the edges on my box nicely.

Here’s a close up of the scalloped edges glued on the box side.

Here’s my completed box bottom.

We put the branch in a small gusset bag and added some dirt so you wouldn’t see the wood stabilizing the branch.

I put the tree in the box, tied it with some brown suede from our Coffee and Cream ribbon collection, and added some shred to the top to completely cover the bag.

Then using the green striped paper from the DIGI pack and my 1 3/8″ punch, I punched out about a dozen circles.

I folded all the circles in half.

Then I trimmed around the edge to create…

LEAVES!  I am SO proud of myself for this idea.  I’m sure it’s been done a million times before, but it was my first time, and I’m excited!

Here’s my completed pile of leaves.

On the back of each leaf I wrote little love notes to the girls!

Then I punched small holes in the bottom of each leaf and tied them to the branches using the twine from the Bakery Blend Ribbon collection.

I created a little panel to complete the back of the project.  I embossed my large tree circle on the green striped DIGI paper, stamped the tree on my brown striped paper (look Ma, no coloring!) and then mounted it on the sky paper panel.  I colored the owls and popped them on the tree.

I then mounted the panel to the back of my tree box.

They have a tree filled with love notes from a mom who loves them dearly!

Don’t you want to play along?

Once your project is created, upload it to the SCS Gallery using keyword MFTWSC042110 OR upload it to your blog, and then link it below!

MFT Fabulous Friend Libby Hickson

Happy Monday all!  I know that Monday’s, for us workin’ folk, are not always THE most popular day of the week.  HOWEVER, with the MFT Fabulous Friend Feature on Mondays, I know it’s easing the pain. Right?

This week I am EXCITED to have Libby Hickson joining us!  WOOT!  Now, before I show off her GORGEOUS work, let’s get nosy!

What is your signature move?  Is there one style or technique that seems to adorn your every creation?

I have an uncontrollable obsession with polka dots!!  I cannot seem to make a card without them ending up on there in one form or another.  I’m really not sure how this happened.  But I truly cannot break the habit.  It’s a sickness, I tell ya!

What’s your favorite MFT set and why?
Oh such a hard question!!  I guess the one that was absolute love at first site and I had to buy immediately was Serenity Now.  I actually bought it when it came out and then informed my hubby that HE had just bought it for me for Valentine’s Day!  (Thanks Dear!)  I also love the one I used today, Lovin’ from the Oven.  I love to cook – some friends even call me Libby Crocker.  HA!  And my favorite of your stamps with heads are the Pure Innocence line – they just make my heart melt with their cuteness!!

What do you hoard?
I’m probably answering this the same as many a stamper has before – ribbon!!  I just can’t seem to get enough of it.  And even though I have more ribbon than any one person should own, I STILL cannot find the perfect ribbon for a project all too often. So I must buy MORE!

Here is Libby’s perfect “recipe” using Lovin’ from the Oven:

Sigh.  Isn’t she dreamy???  PLEASE take a moment to stop by Libby’s BLOG and leave her some love!  You MIGHT even get a peek at another MFT creation!
