WSC – Creating with Cork or Felt & a Tutorial

Happy Wednesday!  For this weeks Wednesday Stamp Club we are creating with cork and/or felt.  Here’s my project using cork as a main panel instead of just an element.  I also used several Die-namics dies…can you tell how many? It’s kind of a trick question… :P

I stamped a tree from Grow Love onto a Sweet Tooth panel cut with a nestie and also onto a scrap of patterned paper.

I have only recently begun to color using Sweet Tooth and Copics, and the verdict is YIPPEE.  I LOVE it!  It has a bit more tooth than Perfect Paper Panels, which is nice sometimes, and there are many of you who prefer a bit more texture since you’re used to coloring on that type of cardstock.

I must admit I was shocked at first that I liked it so much, and then extremely pleased since it blends so nicely and is also so affordable!  And thirdly, it’s available in 8.5 x 11″ packs. Talk about a paper tri-fecta!

I used the Jumbo Ric Rac Die-namics to cut out a trim piece and then I used the Grosgrain Texture Board to make it match the ribbon texture.

See how deep that impression is?  You have to try the the super thin pad in Embossing Pad Pack.  Seriously.

I then stitched some grosgrain ribbon in a wonky pattern across my Ric Rac shape.

Here’s a close up of the finished tree after coloring, paper piecing and adding a few Glittered Garnishes for good measure.

I wanted to add some dimension under the tree, so once it was colored, including an actual ground for the tree trunk, I cut a Fresh Cut Grass strip and doubled it up so it would appear like a fun grass clump.

Here’s the backside so you can see how I layered it.

Here’s how I created the custom Pearl Flourish.  I happened to have a stencil with several flourish patterns that I laid on top of my cork panel and using a white gel pen, I added dots through the holes so I would know where to place my pearls. If I hadn’t had a stencil, I could have created a pattern with a pencil on white copy paper, or printed one, and then using a paper piercer I could have created the same thing, so a fancy stencil is NOT necessary.

I chose to add pearls but any crystal will also work.  This is definitely a time when the fancy hotfix applicator comes in HANDY!

Once my pattern was down on my cork, I played around with sizes to see what would work best for the flourish I was creating.

Then I put them into place, and viola!  SO stinkin’ cute!  Here’s another trick question… isn’t that the cutest and most perfect little rolled flower?

And here’s another pic of the completed card.

WSC – Take Note (05.26.10)

Hi all!  I’m back with a new Wednesday Stamp Club, and I’d love for you to join me this week!  The challenge is to incorporate Take Note or another type of print/text/sheet music into your project.  Here’s my finished sample:

I followed a gorgeous sketch I printed out from a challenge blog, but now can’t find it again!  ACK.

In addition to Take Note, I used the twill that was released as part of our VIP Kit, and will be released on June 2nd, along with our Jumbo Scallops Die-namics die.

Here’s a close up of the twill I cut.  I ran it through my Big Shot back and forth, just like I do my felt.

I probably could’ve run it through an additional turn, maybe I’ll play around with that!

No that your creative juices are flowing, how about a fun promo today only??

WSC – Earth Day Fun (04.21.10)

Hi all!  I’m back with all the deets and a million pictures for Wednesday Stamp Club, are you ready?

Excellent!  I love an enthusiastic crowd!

This week I wanted to use our newest Stephanie Fizer set, Sheltering Tree, and since Earth Day is right around the corner, I thought I could combine the two.  I really struggled all week long for inspiration, but literally as I was lying in bed it came to me!  I thought about one of my favorite childrens books of all time, The Giving Tree, by Shel Silverstein, and then an idea started to form.

I LOVE the premise of The Giving Tree, and decided I could take the lovely sentiment and tweak it a bit and create something for my daughters.

Hubby helped me find a perfect branch in the yard, and then he nailed it to a small piece of wood so it would stand upright.

Using the Sheltering Tree DIGI Paper Pack & the new Template, I printed the bottom box and bottom box liner onto the backs of my green striped DIGI papers.  That’s the coolest thing about DIGI Papers!  Patterned Papers don’t generally come in 8.5 X 11 sizes, so with DIGI’s I can have patterned papers for template use!

After my box bottom is complete and lined, I wanted to add a little something to the sides to finish it, so I cut four pieces of the brwon striped DIGI papers and then scored them so that they’d fold over the edges on my box nicely.

Here’s a close up of the scalloped edges glued on the box side.

Here’s my completed box bottom.

We put the branch in a small gusset bag and added some dirt so you wouldn’t see the wood stabilizing the branch.

I put the tree in the box, tied it with some brown suede from our Coffee and Cream ribbon collection, and added some shred to the top to completely cover the bag.

Then using the green striped paper from the DIGI pack and my 1 3/8″ punch, I punched out about a dozen circles.

I folded all the circles in half.

Then I trimmed around the edge to create…

LEAVES!  I am SO proud of myself for this idea.  I’m sure it’s been done a million times before, but it was my first time, and I’m excited!

Here’s my completed pile of leaves.

On the back of each leaf I wrote little love notes to the girls!

Then I punched small holes in the bottom of each leaf and tied them to the branches using the twine from the Bakery Blend Ribbon collection.

I created a little panel to complete the back of the project.  I embossed my large tree circle on the green striped DIGI paper, stamped the tree on my brown striped paper (look Ma, no coloring!) and then mounted it on the sky paper panel.  I colored the owls and popped them on the tree.

I then mounted the panel to the back of my tree box.

They have a tree filled with love notes from a mom who loves them dearly!

Don’t you want to play along?

WSC – Patchwork Easter (03.31.10)

Happy Wednesday all! I’m back with another edition of Wednesday Stamp Club, and today we are making good use of all those bits and scraps of paper lying on our (or maybe just mine?) desk top!

Here is my completed patchwork Easter card featuring What’s Crackin:

To create the patchwork panel, I punched 8 squares from the Spring Paper Pack and glued them onto my Sour Apple panel. I didn’t glue anything in the center because I knew my main image would go on top.

Then, I ran the patchwork panel through my Big Shot with a Cuttlebug embossing folder. It really made it look complete, and pulled it all together!

Your WSC Challenge this week is:
1) Create your own patchwork panel and incorporate it into your project

2) Create a card using my layout

When you’ve finished your project, post it to your blog or the gallery on SCS using keyword MFTWSC033110. Then pop back over to the MFT Blog and leave a link on our Mr. Linky! (If you don’t have a blog, you can use the URL of your gallery post as your Mr. Linky link.)

WSC – Glitzy Glitter (03.24.10)

Hi all! I’m back with a new Wednesday Stamp Club Challenge, creating unique and fun embellishments with Glitzy Glitter.

We all know how to add “snow” to a rooftop, or “icing” on a cake or cupcake, but this week let’s think a little more creatively and see what uses we can find for Glitzy Glitter.

Here is the card I created:

I decided to create a glittery sun and some glittery grass for my project. I basically I cut a small white panel, coated it in Diamond Glaze and covered it in the Spring Glitzy Glitter. I allowed it to dry thoroughly, then snipped the paper to create little blades of grass.

Here’s a close up of the grass:

For my second example, I have to admit I am tickled pink over this one, I used a foam dot as my flower center, and then added glitter on top of the foam dot (after exposing the adhesive) to create a glittery flower center. I can’t show you the whole card because the image won’t be released until April 7th, but I can “bear-ly” wait until I get to introduce you to this sweet fellow!

Supplies Used:
An Apple for You
Spring Paper Pack
Skinny Spring Ribbon
Spring Glittered Garnishes
Perfect Paper Panels
Spring Glitzy Glitter
Glitzy Glitter

Your WSC challenge this week is:

1) Create a custom embellishment using Glitzy Glitter (or glitter of your choosing)

2) Create a card or project featuring hand snipped grass

3) Create a card using my layout
