World Card Making Day 2017: Make & Mail

.

Phew — what a fun day we’ve had. It’s not quite over yet though. We hope you’ve had a chance to pop on over to our MFT Insiders Group and Instagram!

Our final challenge of the day and undoubtedly, the most important. If you’re playing catch-up, you can find our 9 AM challenge HERE, our noon challenge HERE, and our 3 PM challenge HERE.

Challenge 4: MAKE & MAIL

Make a card. Mail a card. Do it now and don’t delay. OK, OK, you don’t have to rush out the door right this second but really, make it, address it, stamp it, and pinky-swear that you’ll drop it in the mailbox the first chance you get! We trust you.

Having a stash of just-in-case cards is always a good idea. Making sure you actually spread the love you’re creating is an even better idea!

World Card Making Day 2017: By the Numbers

.

Let us count the ways that card making enriches our lives…the creative outlet, the ability to express our feelings in a tangible way, showing friends and loved ones that they’re important to us in so many ways. Shall I go on?

We’re up to 1…2…challenge #3! If you’ve missed earlier challenges, you’ll find our 9 AM challenge HERE and our noon challenge HERE.

Challenge 3: BY THE NUMBERS

Create a card that features a number in a prominent way. It can be a die-cut number, a stamped number, or even the representation of a number (five cute frogs for a favorite five-year-old’s birthday, perhaps?)

Using text as a design element is always a fun way to mix form with function. Let’s see what you’ve got!

World Card Making Day 2017: Die-namics Designs

.

We’re back with challenge #2! If you need a refresher about our plans for the day, be sure to check out our 9 AM challenge HERE.

Challenge 2: DIE-NAMICS DESIGNS

Our noon challenge is all about die cutting. Put your stamps and inks away for a bit because you won’t be needing them for this challenge. Create a card that features 100% die cutting for a chance to win our noon prize.

Handmade cards from Stephanie Klauck featuring products from My Favorite Things #mftstamps

We love stamping and die cutting equally…it’s fun to focus on just one of them occasionally! We can’t wait to see where your Die-namics lead your next card.

World Card Making Day 2017: ROYGBIV

What location do you call home? I live in Sooke on the southern tip of Vancouver Island in Canada. It is absolutely gorgeous here.

What is your favorite current MFT product? My favourite (yes, I spell it with a u) current MFT product are the shaker pouches. I can’t pick just one shape of shaker pouches, I love them all.

What is your all-time favorite MFT product? My all-time favourite MFT products are the Horizontal and Vertical Stitched Strips Die-namics. I loved being able to mix and match the different sized strips to create the perfect background for a card.

What are your hobbies when you’re not creating MFT masterpieces? When I am not stamping I love to spend time outdoors exploring the gorgeous beaches and trails around Sooke. If I am at home you will often find me cuddling with my sweet puppy, Tibbs, or reading a good book.

What is your all-time favorite MFT product? Gosh, that is a hard question!! I think I have to go with the Stitched Circle STAX Die-namics! I love adding circle elements to my cards, and the stitching adds the perfect extra touch!

What are your hobbies when you’re not creating MFT masterpieces? I love to read, binge watch tv shows (Game of Thrones is my current obsession!) and spend time with my family! My two girls keep me on my toes!

For the third year running, we are beyond excited to announce our Card Design Superstar contest!

We recognize and appreciate so many different card making styles — each is unique and relevant. Meet the Designers: Jody & Barbara

Over the past couple of months, we’ve been introducing you to all of the people that work behind the scenes to make My Favorite Things your favorite things. Today, we’re kicking off a monthly feature showcasing a couple of our incredible creative team members. Our team hails from around the globe and we couldn’t do what we do without their talents.

Today, let’s catch up with Jody Morrow and Barbara Anders.

Creative Team member since: July 2008

What location do you call home? I reside in sunny Eustis, Florida, a mere 15 minutes from the My Favorite Things Boutique. My family and I moved here 5 years ago to become fully immersed in the land of pink and black. We live an hour from the beach and 45 minutes from Orlando — a day trip can feel like a vacation sometimes.

What is your favorite current MFT product? My current favorite product is Blueprints 13. I just love that 5.25 X 4” stitched rectangle panel! It’s so versatile and the die comes with so many other cool components.

What is your all-time favorite MFT product? My all-time favorite product has to be the rectangle frames — any of them. Stitched, single line, plain, and any other variety. The frames add *just* the right thing to so many cards and transforms them into masterpieces. I mean… they’re worthy of being framed. Get it? LOL

What are your hobbies when you’re not creating MFT masterpieces? When I’m not creating, I enjoy spending time with husband and three kids. We like watching sporting events (Go Cowboys! Go Stars!), playing games (we are super competitive), and watching movies. My guilty pleasure is reality television, which is the perfect time to cuddle my three Shih Tzus.

Please share a favorite MFT project you’ve created:

And a current favorite!

Creative Team member since: June 2009

What location do you call home? I live in South-Central Virginia, close to the North Carolina line.

What is your favorite current MFT product? My current favorite product from MFT would have to be the wonderful collection of word dies. They fit so many occasions, can be used equally effectively on CAS cards as well as more intricate designs. They can be made in so many ways: plain card stock, patterned paper, glitter paper, colored with markers, and sponged. Also single layer, inlaid, or raised up on foam or layered for dimension; you’re only limited by your imagination! Such a versatile product!

What is your all-time favorite MFT product? Since I love to create a scene, all of the dimensional and scene Die-namics would have to be my all-time favorite products. They are timeless and again, so versatile in their design possibilities. Whether you use every piece or one element from a set, they can stretch your other products and your creativity to their full potential.

What are your hobbies when you’re not creating MFT masterpieces? In my “spare” time, I love to travel, spend time with friends, read, I’m a news junkie, and I’m always open to inspiration from the world around me.

Meet the MFT Online Staff

You’ve met Kim, you’ve met our unparalleled warehouse staff, and now, meet the crew that brings the products you love from conception to fruition. This is the team that dreams up, designs, orders, and promotes your favorite things. Our online staff is spread far and wide, from Canada, to the midwest, to Florida.

Position: Customer Success Champion

How long have you worked for MFT? I’ve been working at MFT since conception, so 11 years now, even if at times it was more a requirement to hang out with my friends. 😉 It’s been amazing to see how much it has grown, and transitioned over the years.

What is your favorite MFT memory? My favorite memory, gosh, there are just so many! Watching my mom film our 10-year anniversary film was pretty magical. Just to hear her journey through creating MFT, and remembering how it used to be, and how far it’s come. I was standing behind the camera, feeling so incredibly overwhelmed and inspired by her and what’s she’s created. She’s been able to bless so many lives through her ideas, love of crafting, and giving heart.

What are your hobbies when you are not working hard for the customers? My fur babies are like my kids, so with 4 cats, 3 dogs, and a piglet, we stay busy loving on them! I love to go out on the boat and spending time with our family. Making memories and going on adventures has definitely become our focus at home.

Position: Social Media Maven | Jack of All Trades

How long have you worked for MFT? 3 1/2 years

What is your favorite MFT memory? Meeting the team in person was such a highlight. Even though they knew each other already and had spent a lot of time together, they still made me feel like part of the family.

What are your hobbies when you are not working hard for the customers? With four kids ranging from 10 months to 15 years, sleep is currently my favorite hobby. I love walks with the baby, crafting with my 9-year-old daughter, and having my teen sons “educate” me on current music and internet memes.

Position: Chief Creative Officer AKA Eagle Eye Extraordinaire

How long have you worked for MFT? It’s been about 9 1/2 years now!

What is your favorite MFT memory? I always go back to the first time I met Kim — we were both at a card swap and she continually said, “It’s so nice to meet you!” During that weekend she offered me a spot on the design team, and the rest is history!

What are your hobbies when you are not working hard for the customers? Stamping! My work follows me in my hobby — I love to make cards. I also enjoy spending time with my husband, children, and 3 shitzus!

Position: Spreadsheet Goddess & Design Team Coordinator

How long have you worked for MFT? I started out doing little things here and there in 2010. I came on board full time 5 years ago.

What is your favorite MFT memory? I really don’t think I can pick just one memory. My MFT family has been such a big part of my life and I cherish the time that I get to spend with them. I picked a couple of favorites. My first one was when Jody and Kim called me in 2009 and asked me to be on the design team. I was completely stunned and probably sounded like a fool. I had forgotten how to speak and I didn’t know what to say to them. The 2011 summer CHA in Chicago is another great memory. It was the first time I had spent an extended period of time with the team and I instantly knew that I had found my tribe. Another favorite memory was a trip to New York City in 2015. I had always wanted to go to New York, and Kim made it happen. It was an amazing trip and I am so thankful that my first trip there was with these ladies. My final one isn’t really a specific memory, but a collection of them. Each year we hold a stamping retreat at the MFT store. I absolutely love spending time with the MFT girls and our amazing retreat participants. The energy in the room is just incredible, and I look forward to the event every year.

What are your hobbies when you are not working hard for the customers? Stamping is one of my favorite ways to spend the day. I also love to walk and hike the beautiful beaches and forests around my home.

Position: Graphic Designer

How long have you worked for MFT? Since April 2010  – 7 years!

What is your favorite MFT memory? There are way too many special moments to pick just one. Our team is extremely close and we ALWAYS have fun when we are together.

What are your hobbies when you are not working hard for the customers? CrossFit, running, traveling with family and friends.

Position: Video Vixen

How long have you worked for MFT? Part-time since 2014 and full-time since May of this year.

What is your favorite MFT memory? Going to Florida in April, finally meeting everyone in person, and getting to visit the MFT Boutique!

What are your hobbies when you are not working hard for the customers? Creativity in all forms…cardmaking, felt flowers, colouring, etc. If I can do all of that while camping, even better!
