Creative Construction: Homespun Holidays

MFT_CreativeConstruction_SideBar

We love Blueprints because they take the guesswork out of crafting beautiful cards in quick fashion when we’re short on time or inspiration. We also love them for their versatility and ability to be mixed and matched when we have the time and inspiration to create something truly unique. Our Creative Construction Challenge focuses on these attributes each month, challenging the team to either assemble a card based on one of the provided Blueprints sketches or design an original card combining elements from the featured Blueprints.

Did you know you can find ALL of our printable Blueprints sketches in one spot? Our Printable Resources section over there in the sidebar is packed with handy reference materials including Blueprints. There are few things more inviting during the hectic holiday season than cozying up under a well-worn quilt with a warm cup and inviting book. Join us this month as we recreate that comfortable feeling in paper form with the homespun elements included in Blueprints 20.

Handmade card from Julia Stainton featuring Blueprints 20

Julia’s vintage style is a perfect match to the homey elements in this delightful Blueprints. From the color palette, to the lovely layers, she’s nailed this pretty look.

Handmade card from Teri Anderson featuring Blueprints 20

Teri’s eye-catching interpretation of the challenge features traditional colors and a bold sentiment. Rather than using the included grid element, Teri die cut a few extra pieces and created her own 9 square grid for an entirely new look.

Torico’s floral masterpiece features soothing colors and lots of layers. There are so many great details but my favorites are the subtle polka dot pattern she added to the flower and the beautiful blended background she created with the Mini Chicken Wire Stencil (if you love the look too, make sure to grab that stencil, and more, during the stencil sale. It ends today so act quickly – find the details on yesterday’s post!)

Keisha’s bold take on the challenge features a trio of tone-on-tone flowers created with the Rose with Overlay Die-namics. They look striking paired with Royal Leaves and a sentiment from Delicate Pretty Poppies.

Creative Construction: Hip to be Square

Did you know you can find ALL of our printable Blueprints sketches in one spot? Our Printable Resources section over there in the sidebar is packed with handy reference materials including Blueprints. Traditionally, we reach for an A2 base for our cards – it’s a familiar canvas that we’re accustomed to using as a starting point for our greetings. Switching things up with a square base provides the opportunity to challenge ourselves with a different point of view. Our Blueprints line features a number of sets that provide every element necessary for crafting square cards and our team is here to demonstrate their versatility.

Handmade card from Kay Miller featuring Birdie Brown You Gnome Me.

Blueprints 14, in addition to a number of beautiful accents, includes this stitched square element that provides a gorgeous backdrop to the Quilt Square Cover-Up and die cuts from Birdie Brown’s You Gnome Me that Kay used to create her card.

Handmade card from Torico featuring Spooky House Die-namics.

Torico’s spooky scene is elegantly framed by the bracketed element from Blueprints 19. Check out that sweet mix of cute ghosts and eery house – those glowing windows are really just the perfect touch.

Ingenious Inking: Resistance is Futile

MFT_IngeniousInking_SideBar

The projects featured this month are irresistibly cool examples of using different methods and formulas of ink to create eye-catching resist looks on your cards and projects. Ingenious? Absolutely. Keep clicking to see how this challenge inspired our talented (and inky!) team of designers.

Handmade card from Kimberly Crawford featuring Blueprints 26 Die-namics.

Kimberly’s double-resist technique produces a cool layered resist pattern. After first stamping the Happy Birthday Background and heat setting, she stamped the Star Background in Versamark and used a clear embossing powder to heat emboss. Finally, she blended the gorgeous Persimmon Premium Dye Ink over the entire die-cut balloon surface. Just imagine all of the pattern mixing options this technique opens up!

Handmade card from Donna Mikasa featuring the Balloon Strings Background.

Donna’s lovely look features the Balloon Strings Background. After heat embossing the pattern onto watercolor paper, she used the resulting lines to guide her watercolor application. The Peerless Transparent Watercolors produced the stunning rich hues you see here.
