Creative Construction with Blueprints: Strips, Tags, and Flags – Oh My!

MFT_CreativeConstruction_SideBar

We love Blueprints because they take the guesswork out of crafting beautiful cards in quick fashion when we’re short on time or inspiration. We also love them for their versatility and ability to be mixed and matched when we have the time and inspiration to create something truly unique. Our Creative Construction Challenge focuses on these attributes each month, challenging the team to either assemble a card based on one of the provided Blueprints sketches or design an original card combining elements from the featured Blueprints.

Did you know you can find ALL of our printable Blueprints sketches in one spot? Our Printable Resources section over there in the sidebar is packed with handy reference materials including Blueprints. I’m sure you can relate – you’ve created a beautiful background or set an impressive scene but are stumbling on the placement of your sentiment. We have the solution. Our extensive collection of Blueprints includes a wide variety of sentiment strips, tags, and flags that will provide a humble home for showcasing your sentiment in style.

Handmade card from Karolyn London #mftstamps

Karolyn’s impressive floral panel deserves the star treatment. Using the pierced strip from Blueprints 3 to house her sentiment spotlights the thoughtful greeting while still allowing the Roses All Over pattern to shine.

Handmade card from Debbie Olson #mftstamps

Debbie’s prehistoric scene features lovely loose coloring for the background and darling dinosaurs in the foreground. Her heat-embossed sentiment completes the scene without competing with the scene – perfect!

A well-placed button can impart beautiful tactile interest to your paper projects. When you have the ability to die cut your buttons from a host of cool colors, the possibilities are limitless. Our team has shared their considerable talents this month to create projects ranging from romantic to bold & graphic – each featuring Blueprints that include button elements.

Handmade card from Barbara Anders featuring Blueprints Die-namics #mftstamps

Barbara’s colorful row of buttons mirrors the curve she’s created with the Stitched Snow Drifts Die-namics. A beautifully inked die-cut word adds the perfect bit of pop to her sentiment while a thin strip of polka dot paper delineates the curve.

Handmade card from Julie Dinn featuring Blueprints Die-namics #mftstamps

Julie has created dimension by layering up a bevy of die-cut buttons. Adding hemp cord to the final layer of buttons finished the look off to perfection. Her button border also creates the perfect division between two decidedly different patterns.

Handmade card from Yoonsun Hur #mftstamps

Laina Lamb Design’s Sweet Succulents are perfect for scene-building – this cool cat looks right at home nestled within the prickly plants. The sentiment looks great stamped both in black against the neutral background as well as heat-embossed in white on black.

When you incorporate new designs into your stash, look at your existing images to discover new and exciting pairings.

Handmade card from Julie Dinn #mftstamps

A beautiful blend of colors is a fantastic way to highlight the pattern provided by a stencil. We have an extensive collection available but the new Geometric Grid really shines using this application.

When you have a beautiful background like the one Julie has created, a lot of extra “stuff” isn’t necessary! Keep it simple to allow the pattern you spent so much time creating to really stand out.

Creative Construction with Blueprints: Circular Reasoning

We could go round and round on this topic but we feel confident that circles are the shape we reach for most when it comes to adding soft interest to our projects. Layers, peek-a-boo windows, masks, even shaped cards – there are so many ways to incorporate this classic shape into your crafting and this month, our team is highlighting Blueprints that boast this first-class form.

Handmade card from Jody Morrow #mftstamps

Jody’s delightfully cheery pink and gold look is like a party in card form! Stitched circles and confetti combine in the most delightful way. She finished the look off with a shiny gold sentiment.

Handmade card from Francine Vuilleme #mftstamps

Francine created interest on a simply-stamped single layer card by die cutting a stitched circle from the center of her panel with one of the elements from Blueprints 18. By simply re-positioning in the same spot and aligning the pre-stamped images, she managed to add easy interest as well as highlight her sentiment.

You know what else circles are perfect for? Shakers! Especially when you use the 2″ self-adhesive shaker pouches we carry in the store.

Handmade card from Kimberly Crawford #mftstamps

Just find a 2″ circle die and pair it with virtually any other larger die you’d like. If you’d like a tiny bit of wiggle room, grab the 2 1/8″ circle dies in Blueprint 18, 22, or 24. Here’s just a few potential combinations but your options are limitless.

Now add a fun combination of addicting little fillers (try sequins and confettiPrills, beads, small die cuts, and Dimensional Confetti just to name a few) and seal it up! Watch Kimberly’s process HERE or by playing the embedded video below.

Handmade cards from Yoonsun Hur featuring So Much Love #mftstamps

Yoonsun focused on a couple of the laurel leaf images in So Much Love to create a repeating pattern on her two card panels. By stamping with Versamark and heat embossing, she created a resist finish perfect for creating a beautiful depth of a color with a mix of complementary Premium Dye Inks.

Why not choose a supplemental graphic from one of your stamp sets to create a background pattern? What a great way to stretch your crafty stash!

Handmade treat boxes from Francine Vuilleme featuring Birdie Browns Ewe Are the Best #mftstamps

Francine’s mix of the new Birdie Brown Ewe Are the Best stamp set and Die-namics with the previously released Things with Wings from Miss Tiina resulted in this three dimensional delight. A pop of pattern on the interior of her design adds interest without overwhelming the finished look.

Our Printable Resources section over there in the sidebar is packed with handy reference materials including Blueprints. Cards in a flash are the specialty of the Blueprints line and this month, we can all probably use a leg up in that regard! Our challenge this month is simple: create cards based on Blueprints sketches. Any Blueprints, any sketch. Simple choose the paper and let Blueprints do the rest of the work!

Handmade card from Barbara Anders featuring Blueprints 20

MFT__Blueprints20_Sketches

A sketch from Blueprints 20 provided the perfect opportunity to showcase a sweet scene beneath the gridded window element. The Candy Stripes Background Builder works amazingly well for crafting wallpaper as well! The only adjustment Barbara made to the original sketch was to replace the heart accent with a theme-appropriate snowflake.

Handmade card from Torico featuring Blueprints 24

MFT__Blueprints24_Sketches

This sketch from Blueprints 24 provides the perfect placement of a standout sentiment. The large rounded-corner panel is begging to spotlight a fun image and that jolly Santa from Jingle All the Way couldn’t be a more perfect focal point.
