Hi there everyone, – how are you? I’m probably dealing with a bit of jet lag right about now, having arrived in Orlando yesterday afternoon – ready for my Copic classes here at the My Favorite Things Boutique in Eustis this weekend!

So I thought I would keep up the “flying theme” with this month’s feature by using Birdie Brown’s Up in the Air stamp set and Die-namics.

Jane Allen

I started by cutting out a panel using the largest die from the  Stitched Rectangle STAX Die-namics and Steel Blue Card Stock, and a smaller rectangle from Copic suitable card stock.  The larger panel I put to one side and the smaller, I sprayed using my airbrush.

Next, I stamped the balloons on another piece of Copic card and proceeded to colour them with Copic markers.  To get the teddy bear inside the basket, you need to stamp him first then cover him with a mask. I used a post it note – basically you stamp the image again, cut out the sticky backed version and adhere it to the first stamped image. Then you stamp the balloon over the top – when you remove the mask the bear looks as though he is inside the basket – ta da!

Once I was happy with the balloons I turned my attentions to the background, adding bushes and little sheep…my students will be learning how to create little sheep like these during the classes this weekend. I will share it with you guys in another feature, I promise.

As you can see I used the complementary Die-namics to cut out the balloon and as I have done before, I coloured the white border so that it blended in with the background.

The larger balloon was again cut out using a die and coloured as before. I then decided to colour an additional bear to stick on top of the original one…confession time: I thought I had added sufficient card stock between the coloured image and the die to stop the die from cutting through the bear I had masked but no, the die cut through the image – grrrrr! Bloopers happen to us all! So I just took a deep breath, re-stamped and coloured the bear, and stuck him on top of what remained of the original little guy! To give depth to the card, I mounted this larger balloon onto the background with foam squares.

As always, here is the Copic list for those who would like to try this themselves:

Well, that’s about it for this month…see you next month when I will be back with more colouring fun!
