Color. Texture. Pattern. Laina has masterfully combined all of these design features into one vibrant layout. She’s used trendy patterns and techie elements to create a page that’s very much “in the now” but by including classic patterns, she’s imparted a timeless feel – this is a design that she’ll enjoy for years to come! It’s the little details that really make a layout special and Laina has shared some wonderful tips for pumping up your next project.
If you want key words in your title to really POP, cut the letters twice and layer with pop dots.
Kick tone-on-tone up a notch by using slightly different shades of the same color. Now you have created texture and contrast.
This layout includes the perfect mix of patterns but Laina didn’t use a single piece of patterned paper. Instead, she created her own custom patterns in a number of different ways. The Berrylicious block was created by embossing card stock, highlighting the raised detail with coordinating ink. The Sour Apple and Razzle Berry blocks were done with Cover-Up Die-namics. The Steel Grey block was also done with a Cover-Up but this time, Laina left the piece intact choosing not to remove the circles. Tone on tone pattern was also created by stamping the Woodgrain Background pattern on the Instafames, a portion of the title work, and the Mod Border along the bottom of the layout.
Finally, Laina created a journaling spot in her Smart Phone die cut negative by stamping with a lined journaling stamp.
Ready to make a layout of your own based on Laina’s sketch? She has graciously provided one for you! This layout is such an excellent example of how putting attention and effort into the finer details can make an impact on the final product. The process doesn’t have to be time consuming, just thoughtful. So on your next project, challenge yourself to come up with one little detail that will push it from really good, to reallyreally good.
